*Gill Ward is now 'under management' of Total Entertainment Solutions*

Gill Ward had a 2002 full of landmark events and with the release of her long-awaited transatlantic album 'Piece Of Mind', 2003 is shaping up to be her most successful yet.
What sets her apart more than anything is her willingness to embrace new material: from award winning composer Simon Balkham, singer Brian Shaw and cornerstone of the UK music scene Dave Cooke to name but three. Add on to this her own compositions and an extremely careful choice of lesser-known standards, and it becomes obvious why Gill's live outings are eagerly awaited by her loyal fanbase.
Gill was nominated for the Marion Montgomery Jazz Diva Award in late 2002 and won through the regional heats to become one of the 6 national finalists to perform in the Isle of Wight Jazz Festival at Ventnor working with International Jazz Musicians Nick Weldon, Jeff Clyne & Trevor Tomkins. Gill says "I'm a very fortunate woman. I met Marion Montgomery last year, and attended her last concert at Pizza on the Park, prior to her death. Marion had a style and approach to jazz singing which I admire. She believed in the importance of singing lyrics intelligently-telling the story in song. Presentation to the winners - Isle Of Wight Jazz Festival (more pictures in The Gallery)For me the thrill is being acknowledged by eminent musicians such as Laurie Holloway, (Marion's husband and one of the judges) there can be no greater prize than someone you admire believing in your ability. I had several conversations with Marion last year and she made a considerable impact upon me. I admired her not only as a performer but also as a person. I found her to be an exceptionally insightful woman, with a tremendous generosity of spirit. The only disappointing thing from the Jazz Diva Event was that Marion did not survive to see her hard work come to fruition.

Sell Out...

A sell-out concert at the Hermit Club, Brentwood was organised in September, and utilised Jazz Adventures - Hermit Club, Brentwood, Essexthe talents of an all-star trio featuring Jeff Clyne on string bass, Nick Weldon on piano and Trevor Tomkins on drums - plus singers Brian Shaw and Jo Hendricks. It proved to be a winning formula and it is hoped to repeat this success at a larger venue later this year 2003....see diary above... Gill had already enjoyed singing with Jo Hendricks (see below) and Brian Shaw is a singer and writer whose talents Gill has utilised on her latest CD, featuring his composition 'Tomato Ketchup'.

Ipswich PULSE Music Festival

In April 2002, Gill was given the opportunity to join in a live one-on-one with jazz singer Jo Hendricks at the Wolsey Studio in Ipswich, as part of the PULSE festival, and was quick to accept. "I've admired Jo's vocal stylings since I first heard her and love the contrast between us - especially in the intimate space of the Wolsey Studio, with the clearly audible audience following every breath, every note, every twist and turn of melody and rhythm".
